Florence Caplow has been designing and implementing rare plant surveys throughout western North America for more than twenty years. As a partner in Calypso Consulting (1994-2001) she conducted more than fifty rare plant surveys in the Pacific Northwest for the US Forest Service, BLM, Washington State Parks, The Nature Conservancy, Public Utility Districts, land trusts, energy companies, and environmental consulting firms. She also discovered two plant species new to science. As the lead botanist for the Washington Natural Heritage Program within the Washington State Department of Natural Resources (2001-2006), she was responsible for all aspects of rare plant conservation state-wide and represented the program at the national level. Since 2006, she has worked as a freelance botanist from southern California to Southeastern Alaska.
