2011 Summer Potraits

  • Finished Strong
Finished last year with three tris and 2 endurance bike rides of 65 and 50 miles and over 1200 total miles in the saddle.  Will definitely build on that this year. I need get back into training mode. So i figured if i start writing about it i will get my but in gear. El Tiempo es Hora!

  • 2 more Triathlons
I have signed up for two more triathlons, that will be three total and my goal this rookie triathlon year has been met. The second tri is the Playtri Festival in Las Colinas June 3 (500m-12mile-3.1mile) followed up by the Dirty Rock Tri June 10th which is a very short race(150m-6mile-2mile). The Playtri Festival is the one that has a grip on me. The fear of that 500m swim is a daunting one i need to overcome. Every triathlete faces it. Im starting to deal with it now and it motivates me when doing my swim workouts. I think about how lonely it is out there in that nasty man made pond when fatigue starts to whisper in your ear and you start to loose your rhythm, and my thoughts go from 'inhale, hold, exhale, inhale, hold, exhale' to oh !@#$ what have i got myself into. Ah yes, panic is knocking on the door...and as I sit here thinking about all this I start to get fired up and angry like the dude standing in front of the firing squad, "lets go, lets get the suffering over with already...."

  • I am 40 year old Triathlete, hear me roar!
I completed my first Tri at the King Tut Triathlon. Crossing the finish line in 01:00:57 was the best feeling of accomplishment! It was a life changing experience. So much so I have decided to do two more this summer. I read this book titled Your First Triathlon by Joe Friel and the last line of the book was something like, "Now that you have (finished your first triathlon) you can go back to your old lifestyle or you can continue on the path that you have started. The choice is yours." I cant go back now, the choice is obvious yo!

  • Not so good
Its been a rough week, got a sinus infection and pretty much lost a week of training. Looking to make it up this week. I could tell it had been a week since i road, it was burn burn at the beginning but after about 20 minutes, i got my legs back and felt good.

  • So far so good!
Its been two weeks and so far, so good. I've been riding three times a week incrementing from 30 to 45 min to an hour. Just getting my legs and lungs used to exercising. Next step is to start incorporating the swim and diet change, no more breakfast burritos :-( I'm looking forward to this phase.

Oh yeah, I may have spent some money on training equipment, just the basics for triathlon training ;-)
