2 more Triathlons

posted May 14, 2012, 7:00 PM by Adrian Cantu

I have signed up for two more triathlons, that will be three total and my goal this rookie triathlon year has been met. The second tri is the Playtri Festival in Las Colinas June 3 (500m-12mile-3.1mile) followed up by the Dirty Rock Tri June 10th which is a very short race(150m-6mile-2mile). The Playtri Festival is the one that has a grip on me. The fear of that 500m swim is a daunting one i need to overcome. Every triathlete faces it. Im starting to deal with it now and it motivates me when doing my swim workouts. I think about how lonely it is out there in that nasty man made pond when fatigue starts to whisper in your ear and you start to loose your rhythm, and my thoughts go from 'inhale, hold, exhale, inhale, hold, exhale' to oh !@#$ what have i got myself into. Ah yes, panic is knocking on the door...and as I sit here thinking about all this I start to get fired up and angry like the dude standing in front of the firing squad, "lets go, lets get the suffering over with already...."

I am 40 year old Triathlete, hear me roar!

I completed my first Tri at the King Tut Triathlon. Crossing the finish line in 01:00:57 was the best feeling of accomplishment! It was a life changing experience. So much so I have decided to do two more this summer. I read this book titled Your First Triathlon by Joe Friel and the last line of the book was something like, "Now that you have (finished your first triathlon) you can go back to your old lifestyle or you can continue on the path that you have started. The choice is yours." I cant go back now, the choice is obvious yo!

Not so good

posted Sep 7, 2011, 2:12 PM by Adrian Cantu

Its been a rough week, got a sinus infection and pretty much lost a week of training. Looking to make it up this week. I could tell it had been a week since i road, it was burn burn at the beginning but after about 20 minutes, i got my legs back and felt good.

So far so good!

Its been two weeks and so far, so good. I've been riding three times a week incrementing from 30 to 45 min to an hour. Just getting my legs and lungs used to exercising. Next step is to start incorporating the swim and diet change, no more breakfast burritos :-( I'm looking forward to this phase.
Oh yeah, I may have spent some money on training equipment, just the basics for triathlon training ;-)

Did you say triathlon?

I have decided to start training for triathlon sprint events which are short distances and i think totally doable without killing myself. Jaime just laughs so I am putting it in writing. For to not do what I say I do is to be flakus maximus. Goal is to finish a triathlon by the end of next years season. Ok. I am starting right............... now!

Vincent on the quadmobile

Its cool to see Vincent figure out how to steer his electric quadmobile, he's been steering well for a couple weeks now, although he still likes to drive it into the brick wall or the fence every now and then, maybe he is looking for a little excitement.

Summer allergies for Obi Juan

With the heat comes more allergies for Obi. This is the worst summer yet, we had to actually buy a cone for him cause his soars were so bad and he wouldn't stop licking. It didn't take long for him to destroy the cone and use it to scratch. Finally called the his dermatologist. That's right, his dermatologist and got him some meds that seem to be working but not cheap.

Fast forward

Well fast forward 5 months, Jaime was laid off in April, Vincent has his baby molars and is growing by leaps and bounds physically and mentally. Tha Mavs are NBA Champs, beating Queen james, dfade and that other dude, chris bosh, who btw had a better Finals series than Lebrick. We really got into the womens World Cup this year. Disapointed by the loss to Japan on PKs but the Olympics are just around the corner. Got a new air compressor, oh the possibilities, the problem is we are now 23 straight days of 100+ temp yo, its too hot to play with the compressor. Oh the Heat! The Heat!

Vincent has cut his next two teeth, that's now 5 and 6 and looks like 7 and 8 are on the way...yeah :-(  Teething, the necessary evil, the definition of growing pains if ever there was one.
