Canopy Glider Swing, Plan No. 818 (Woodworking Project Paper Plan)
Like an Adirondack chair or a picnic table, a glider swing is a backyard classic that never goes out of style. Perfect for relaxing in the great outdoors, a glider is a great way to enjoy the warm weather with family and friends, rain or shine, day or night. This do-it-yourself version - complete with two bench seats, a wide shade canopy and even a built-in table complete with cut-outs for drinks - is no exception. The project, designed to seat four adults comfortably, includes all the best features of classic outdoor glider swings. Simple enough for beginners with just a few basic tools, the swing is built from standard fir, plywood and galvanized pipe, so its also easy on the budget. Calling for mostly straight cuts, the project includes full-size patterns for the curves. To build, trace the pieces onto wood (where necessary) and cut everything out. Next, assemble the frame and install the pipe that supports the seats. Once the frame is complete, build and hang the seat platform and attach the canopy and table. Finally, apply finish of choice. The completed glider measures about 8 feet long by 7 feet wide by 8 feet tall. The Canopy Glider Swing plan (No. 818) includes detailed step-by-step directions with photos, full-size traceable patterns, construction diagrams, a complete shopping list and cutting schedule

I'm in the process of befriending a neighborhood crow and I'm not above addicting it to my oatmeal raisin cookies in order to buy its friendship. Things are progressing nicely and I was able to introduce my camera yesterday to the scene without making the bird overly nervous. From all the G Series challenges I've participated in at the POTN forum, swinging around bicycle lights at night in the front yard, to placing dozens of drinking glasses out on our gravel driveway, spraying them with the garden hose, my neighbors have come to learn that this is an odd house. Or at the very least...I am. So everyday, about late morning time, I walk out onto our front porch and start mouthing a loud clacking sound that I hope the crow will associate with my cookie offering time. I think it's a female, based on its behavior, by the way she hordes the cookie pieces and flies off consistently towards where she roosts/nests, but who knows? Sometimes her mate hangs out nearby, high in the tree canopy, but only the one bird comes down to pick up the morsels. I listen for their nearby caws and walk outside, start my clacking and the cookie crumbs start getting tossed.
