Yesterday morning, I did some late season planting around my place. All summer long I have had this empty wine barrel sitting out on my deck looking very sad and abandoned. The marigolds that I intended to put in the barrel really never got going, so I finally went to the local garden supply store and came back with some hostas to plant. Three of them went into the wine barrel and the other three were planted on the back side of my garage that sits in the shade until very late in the day. My hope is that the plants get a good footing before we get the first frost next month. We will see what happens.

Epimedium Foliage in Spring.
Epimedium Alpinum 'Rubrum' A really great ground cover as it will grow in dry areas in light to full shade. Will do better in well drained moist soil and prefers acid soil. I think it is one of better ground covers, not invasive and has plenty of foliage interest. Small red blossoms in spring. The overwintering leaves are cut back in late winter and then you get this gorgeous new growth, in my garden in May.
