CAMP PROGRAM

The following provides a general outline of the camp program. Each camper will receive a T-Shirt at the start of the camp and the official Camp Crest at the end.  The camp also follows a special theme throughout each week.

On the first day, campers "Check-In" at the Horseshoe Bay Ferry Terminal in West Vancouver and take a scenic ferry trip up the Howe Sound channel to the Sunshine Coast.  This 35 minute ferry ride takes them to the Langdale terminal where they board a charter bus to Camp Byng.  Camp Byng is a unique 85 hectare (210 acre) forested campground with 1.2 kilometers of beach along the Georgia Strait.

At camp, each camper is assigned to a cabin with five or six other campers.  Each cabin has six beds and is located close to a large modern washroom with flush toilets, showers, and hot & cold running water.  Great meals are prepared each day in a large commercial kitchen facility on site.  The first day ends with games and a large campfire.

During the next three days, campers do a number of activities including archery, obstacle course, ropes challenge, water park, orienteering, GPS navigation, pioneering, hikes, crafts, astronomy courses and beach combing.  After dinner, there are fun games and each day ends around the campfire.

On the first few days campers also break into smaller groups for a "Wilderness Outback" experience where they take a bus to an off-site lake for one day and stay overnight.  Here they will enjoy swimming in the warm lake, learn to how to canoe, cook their own dinner, learn wilderness survival skills, and sleep overnight under a large canvas shelter.  This gives the campers a great wilderness experience.

The sixth day of camp is also different.  We have a day of exciting competitions including archery and a number of fun skill challenging events.  The day finished with our great movie night and sleeping under the stars.

The seventh day is a day of packing up and saying good bye. The camp ends with a quiet ferry ride back to Horseshoe Bay where the campers check-out.  Campers staying for two weeks have an additional special day where they can do a number of fun activities of their choice, have pizza for dinner and have a second movie night and sleep under the stars.
