Indigenous Drum Ceremony & Story Telling

posted Jul 27, 2018, 7:24 AM by Scout Camp Otter Lake QC SCVCHA
Last night, the 4th Scarborough Scout Group was lucky enough to have a visit from the local Broken Arrow Drumming Group. We learnt about the rituals related to a drumming ceremony. I was lucky enough to participate in part of the opening spiritual ritual - very honored.  Due to circumstances beyond their control only 2 of the drummer where able to make it to the camp last night - Thank you Seb and Chris! They put on an excellent ceremony. Unfortunately, the drum ceremony had to be cut short as we learnt the drum must be put to rest/stopped when the sun goes down.

The youth were very respectful of the rituals and participated in the opening smudge, some got to do some drumming, and Chris and Seb had brought with them animal hides for most of the youth to sit on. We also learnt the proper closing hand shake.

Excellent Evening!

Thank you for the invitation Desiree and 4th Scarborough!
