Campaschimes

IITM through IITian Eyes

ABOUT THE BOOK

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 2009. In December 2011, IITM brought out a coffee-table book. This book is about the first fifty years of this internationally acclaimed academic institution's existence. It presents

the story as seen by those most closely associated with IITM: the students,

faculty and administrators. The writings of IITians on their alma mater is documentary, nostalgic and witty. Richly supported by photographs, facsimiles, cartoons and illustrations, Campaschimes is a celebration of these writings. It will appeal to the general reader as well as to anyone interested in IITM. All alumni of IITM will cherish it. The title of this book is inspired by Campastimes, IITM's best known student publication.

FROM DIRECTOR BHASKAR RAMAMURTHI's FOREWORD

"Campaschimes brings to you a veritable feast of photographs, snippets from campus publications and press reports, and a silken "voice over" by Kumaran and Ajit Kolar that weaves all of it together seamlessly. I am sure that every alumnus will find the book irresistible and a must-have possession. I suspect that others too will discover that the book sustains their interest, as it offers a glimpse of an era past when life was slower, IITM was a home away from home and not a stopover between school and career, and the IIT-ian did not quite know that the Institute whose portals (s)he was entering was a game-changer.

The book takes you through fifty years of IIT Madras in one heady joy-ride with twists and turns that take you back and forth in time.

I commend this labour of love from Kumaran, Ajit, the innumerable photographers, authors and poets, as well as the designer, printer and other professionals who worked on it.
