InfraRed test. I liked this image as is, without conversion from what the CCD produced behind the IR filter. Red looks nice sometimes. 8Mp Infrared Digital SLR Camera CANON EOS 350D Digital REBEL XT or Canon EOS Kiss Digital N . It was professionally converted to the Infrared Digital Camera. The original internal Hot mirror Filter was replaced with 720nm Hoya Infrared Pass Filter. After convertion this Camera was recalibrated to ensure the Autofocus works well in an Infrared Spectrum. I don't need to attach any additional Filters to take Infrared pictures! I can add additional filters to the camera lens (larger than 720nm but not less) however the viewfinder will then be black and I can't frame the photos. After conversion I can use this camera to take Infrared pictures without using a tripod under bright sunlight. I can use the viewfinder with the 720 nm conversions. Typically the light cast by the midday sun is too harsh to take nice landscape shots. The colours become washed out and many objects lose depth since they're nearly shadowless. However, these conditions are great for the IR filter. Everything has a more intense, brighter look. If your CCD is sensitive to IR light I'd highly recommend getting an IR filter such as the Hoya R72. To test your CCD for IR sensitivity: Set the camera to a long shutter speed, around 1 second. Grab your TV remote and fire away into your lens. See any light in your shot? If so, you're all set. Take a look at the IR shot entitled "My first successful IR shot" for details on how I achieve these results.
