Some of the Redshanks at Amble Marshes this morning, Oct 17th 2012 (C Selway)

Also at the Amble Marshes was a Dunlin standing out from its companions this morning, even at a distance strongly recalling Curlew Sandpiper and more advanced in its moult to winter plumage, it could well be the same individual that was at Davidstow Airfield (only approximately 9 miles away), (video of this bird available here). At the moment there are very few Dunlin around the Wadebridge end of the Camel and Amble Marshes (only 14 this morning at high tide) regardless of what it is if anyone is interested in seeing it now is a good time.

The Red-rumped Swallow is only the second record for the estuary, the only other accepted record was of one at Amble Marshes on 24th April 2003.
The count of 37 Light-bellied Brent Goose is the highest count for the estuary of this sub-species.

The two juvenile Grey Plover looked very tired, just sat in the grass. When a Peregrine swooped and took one of the birds the other did not even move, either through exhaustion or fear. It was an easy kill for the Perergine with the striken bird not putting up a fight.
