T
he first 2013 concert was held at West Road Concert Hall on Saturday February 16th when the choir performed African Sanctus by David Fanshawe.

T
he concert was well attended and thoroughly enjoyable. The amazing BackBeat Percussion Quartet started the first part of the concert.

This was followed by a brief talk on the background to the making of African Sanctus by Jane Fanshawe, the wife of the late David Fanshawe who wrote the work.  She explained that David had made original recordings of native music in East Africa in the late 1960s which were later woven into the African Sanctus.

After the interval the choir sang a vibrant rendition of the African Sanctus accompanied by Louise Hemmings, Soprano, BacBeat Percussion Quartet and Linden Innes-Hopkins on the piano. All through the performance slides collected by David Fanshawe were projected behind the choir.
