Cambridgeshire Choral Society

This month (December 2016) our society is one of the John Lewis (Cambridge) green token recipients. Apparently this is in operation in the cafe on the top floor so please do have a break from your Christmas shopping and take advantage of this. There is £3000 to be divided between 3 charities. The amount we receive depends on the number of tokens collected.

The next concert

This will be on April 29th 2017 at the West Road Concert Hall at 7.30pm when we will be performing Mendelssohn's Elijah.  See https://sites.google.com/site/cambschoral/home/news .

NOTES:

  • Sir David Willcocks died on Sept 17th 2015. He was CCS president since the inception of the society. There was a memorial concert in Kings College Chapel on Sunday Nov 22nd 2015 which was broadcast on Radio 3.
  • We are delighted that Tim Brown has agreed to be the president of CCS. Tim was the Director of
Music at Clare College Cambridge from 1979 to 2010. For fourteen years (1977-1990) Tim was our conductor so it's wonderful that he has taken on the role of president. The CCS Vice Presidents include: Stephen Alder, Stephen Cleobury (Director of Music at King's College), John Rutter CBE and Andrew Parnell.

Andrew Parnell moved on this summer after 10 years as our very effective conductor. The photo above was at his last concert with CCS.

We welcomed our new conductor Richard Laing who started in the 2015-16 season.

The Cambridgeshire Choral Society gives the opportunity for amateur singers from all parts of Cambridgeshire to take part in the performance of major choral works under a professional conductor with professional soloists and a full orchestra in prestigious venues such as King's College Chapel, Ely Cathedral or the West Road Concert Hall, Cambridge.

The Society uniquely comprises a number of smaller choirs that meet on a weekly basis for rehearsal under the guidance of a professional musician. These choirs join together with "Associate Members" for combined rehearsals with the Principal Conductor on several Saturdays throughout the season.

Details of our concerts, rehearsals, history and conductors may be found by following the links on the left of each page.
