Special Olympics

We are proud to offer a Special Needs Gymnastics Class for people with intellectual and physical disabilities who would like to learn gymnastics in a fun and safe environment!

You can also join the CCG Competitive Team, and compete in the Special Olympics Summer Games!  Find more information on the Special Olympics Massachusetts (SOMA) website.

Class Availability:
We apologize, but we currently do not have any space for new students. Please fill out our Waitlist Form and we will contact you when space is available.

Class Descriptions:

Special Needs Gymnastics Class:  Saturday afternoons during the school year (Sept - May), 2:30 - 3:30pm, Ages 8 - 60 years old (ages 6-7 may be accepted on a case-by-case basis).  We will work on basic gymnastics skills, along with overall body movement, body awareness, and control.

Special Olympics Routine Training:  Saturday afternoons in the late spring (April - May), 3:30 - 4:00pm, Ages 8 - 60 years old.  We will work on the S.O. Routines (some athletes compete Compulsory and some Optional) for competition (you must be at least 8 years old to compete).

Friends and parents who would like to join in are welcome!   We also have many volunteers - BUT WE'RE ALWAYS LOOKING FOR MORE! - who help out with this program to make sure your child succeeds!  We are an all-volunteer program, so we welcome the support.  The only requirements for volunteering are patience and a positive attitude - no gymnastics experience is necessary, as there are always a few gymnastics coaches on hand to assist with that aspect.

S.O. Competition information:  There will be a mandatory Assessment Round qualifier meet in the spring, and the S.O. Summer Games are the first weekend in June.

S.O. Fundraising:  Every year we participate in the Special Olympics Massachusetts (SOMA) Jolly Jaunt 5k Race on Boston Common.  The race is typically the morning of the first Saturday in December.  It's a great opportunity to support your teammates and the program!

Current Session Info:
The winter session is underway! We currently do not have any space for new students. Please fill out our Waitlist Form and we will contact you when space is available. The spring session starts in April and ends with the Summer Games the first weekend in June.  There are no Special Needs classes over the summer.

Tuition is $80 for the session, which is the "Pricing Level C. Special Group Members" discount level.  The cost for someone to just drop-in to class occasionally without registering for the session is $10/class, although it is highly recommended that students register for the whole session.  All payments are due at the student's first class of the session.  Some Financial Aid and Payment Plans are available for families in need.  All participants & families are encouraged to fundraise to support S.O. programming.

For those students wishing to compete in the Summer Games in June, the Routine Training time is mandatory, but has no additional fee for those practices.

Please pre-register at least 24 hours in advance of the first class you want your child to attend (but the sooner the better), as all participants must be on the Access List in order to gain entrance to the facility.  Please follow the instructions under the Registration & Contact page.  Thank you!

For questions about our Special Needs program - either to register as a student or to volunteer, please email the coordinator, Caitlin Smythe:  specialneeds@cambridgegymnastics.org
