Junior Striders 2017 Track Program Information

Required: Calumet Region Striders (CRS) Family Membership $15.00 + $30.00 Program Fee Per Person ($5 discount for additional members from the same family – must sign up online at the same time).  Visit  www.calstrider.org to join and see CRS’ Youth Programs.

Practices – Beginning first week in May, please refer to the Jr Striders calendar on the Striders website for the most up-to-date information
  • Monday and Wednesday in Porter County; Monday & Thursday in Lake County
  • We are planning on two Inter-squad meets tentatively scheduled in June – more details to follow but one will be in Porter county and the other in Lake County
  • Practices rain or shine (exception if lightning) – cancellations on Remind 101
  • Some announcements on Junior Striders Facebook – encourage to go in and “Add Friend” on the site
  • You should be training at least 2 other days a week if you want to get in competitive shape – feel free to ask a coach for suggestions on what type of running/training you should be doing on those days

Uniforms – optional but good to have for meets and can wear at other race events – ordering done online
  • Ordering information during first couple weeks of practice with orders needed in late May to have for meets in June – we will also have some other optional Strider Wear available to order at that time

Volunteering – all of our coaches are volunteers and do not get paid – to keep costs down, we need parents to volunteer and help at one or more of the youth events during the season

Governing Bodies – what they are and costs – you need to qualify to advance to the next level
  • AAU – Annual $14 Membership Sept. 1 – Aug. 31 each year (Club code WWE6A7) - optional
  • District Qualifier for Indiana will be at Pike High School in Indianapolis, IN on June 17th 
  • Regional Qualifier is in Rockford, IL  on June 29 – July 2 (multi events on the 29th)
  • Junior Olympics July 25 – August 6 in Detroit, MI
  • USATF – Annual $20 Membership from Jan. 1 – Dec. 31 each year (Club code 16-223) - optional
  • State meet June 24-25 site TBD in Indiana
  • Hershey/USATF National  Meet June 27 – July 2 in New York (do not need to qualify to attend)
  • Regional meet  July  6 - 9 at Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, IL
  • Junior Olympics  July 24-30 in Lawrence, KS

Optional Events – all optional – you can participate as much or as little as you would like
  • Road Races – Gold Cup series, sponsored races, local 5K’s (not recommended for kids under 7 years of age) – coaches not always available
  • We encourage kids to participate in the Gold Cup Series, if possible – need to complete 5 races
  • Cost between $15 – $25, mostly on weekends, but some week days
  • One Mile XTRA Kids Run on May 29th in Portage (14 and under only)
  • Extra Mile 1 Mile Challenge on July 13th  in Valparaiso
  • Chick-Fil-A Youth Track meet on May 27 at Guerin Catholic High School (near Indy)
  • Midwest Youth T&F Championship June 2 & 3 at Fishers High School (near Indy)
