I felt very dissatisfied with my 2010, and I figured out why when I had a chance away from everything during the Christmas holidays. I realized that nothing would happen for me and Joanne unless we took control of it ourselves. Everything - physical fitness, adventure travel, and our happiness required effort and dedication. I could no longer afford to just coast through life, if I wanted to get somewhere, I needed to put the effort in to steer the rudder. That being said, I rounded up a bunch of people that fulfilled the following criteria: 1. I haven't seen them in a while 2. They have also been as anti-social lately as I've been 3. They needed a bit of change injected into their lives There's nothing to be ashamed about that criteria. Heck, I was a textbook case of the last two. So Sam, Alex, Dickson, Tony, and myself went to Vertically Inclined to do some rock climbing. Allow me to give you the following observations: 1. I never thought I was all that scared of heights. Let me tell you something, jumping out of a plane at 11,000 feet was not as scary as climbing up 30' on a rock wall on your own. In both cases there were safety mechanisms in place, but man...still scary thinking "if I let go, I'm done for..." 2. I found that different walls were more difficult than others, based mainly on the scarcity of holds, as well as what type of holds there were. Similarly, each individual did differently on each wall - it varied a lot. 3. As Will would say, rock climbing is about functional strength compared to trained strength from say...weightlifting. I was tired after an hour, and my entire body is sore today (I'm writing this on the 16th...) Following rock climbing, Dickson and I stopped by McDonald's to refill on all the calories we just burned and I got ready and headed out with Joanne. The snow was coming down fast and relentlessly which made driving terrible, but seeing Joanne always made my day. We went shopping followed by dinner at the restaurant where we went on our first date - the Red Piano at West Edmonton Mall. I still remember those days, living life with no strings attached. Life was carefree, no commitments, and no responsibilities. While life is different these days, I'm grateful for how far I've come since then. We watched the Tourist and romanced with the idea of visiting Venice some day. I know we'll find ourselves back in Italy again some day soon, it's just a matter of when I suppose. I'm in no rush, I've found the perfect partner, and even when we're married, I plan on enjoying married life, seeing the world, and living life to the fullest before we settle down. "Guess I Do Get The Dreaded "E" Word" I look at Matt's pics of him in the gym every night, and I am envious. Steve has had a few too. Sitting or standing on a machine has little allure for me, and I hate things like running. I don't even know what an elliptical is!! I love bicycling, and was planning on buying a bicycle this summer but my PTSD keeps getting in the way. But I have been curious. I work in a rather large kitchen, and I have always wondered just how much walking do I do in a day. I do not sit at a desk all day, I am on my feet and moving a lot, but just how much moving do I do. So, my work friend, Kelsy loaned me one of her pedometers. I wore it on Wednesday, which was a double shift for me. I discovered I made 21, 274 steps from 11:00 a.m., to 12:00 a.m.. At 400 calories burned for every 10,000 steps you take, I used up over 860 calories just walking around work. In addition to the calories it takes to just live, and probably a few extra to deal with the hellish temperatures and humidity in the kitchen yesterday, due to the oppresive heat. And It doesn't take in to account whatever steps I took from 8:00 to 11:00, as I did not have it then. Today was only 7123, but I had a lot of prep to do for parties, which means standing in one spot for periods of time while building cheese trays, or making big batches of spinach - artichoke dip. I plan to keep monitoring this as I find it interesting, plus it makes me feel better about the dreaded "E" word....exercise. But I know I need to do more. Gawd help me, am I gonna have to actually go downstairs to the gym???
