Here you will learn more about my professional life.
PS> My last name is pronounced "kah-year-goes." If you want to sound even more authentic, flip the "r."

As a music educator, I devote many hours towards my craft including regular professional development, membership of professional organizations, participation in various community ensembles, and reflection regarding my students and teaching. I started the school music program with the support of our entire school community through which it continues to grow. As an inclusive school, our belief is every student, no matter their abilities can learn and make music side by side. Music is such a vast subject that helps students generate meaningful experiences that expand the heart, body, and mind. I love my job!

Bio Summary

“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.” ~Plato

Dear CHIME families,

I have the pleasure of teaching music to all the CHIME students kindergarten through eighth grade. I love my job and the ability to see first hand, the progress each student makes over their time at CHIME. I started at CHIME in 2007 when there were less than 300 students. Our music program has certainly grown since then and continues to do so with CHIME serving over 750 students. When I am not at CHIME, I am performing with various ensembles in the community, serving on music education boards, teaching musicianship with the National Children's Chorus, and cherishing time spent with family.

If you ever have questions about the music program, please don't hesitate to contact me at kelly.callirgos@chimeinstitute.org, visit the music room (next to the main office), and check out my website: http://callirgosmusic.wordpress.com/.

Looking forward to a wonderful year of music making for everyone!
~Kelly Callirgos, CHIME Music Teacher

Kelly Callirogs was engaged in music from a young age. Inspired through music, Callirgos immersed herself in a variety of school music programs, including concert band, marching band, orchestra, jazz band, drumline, musical theatre, opera, and more. Her experiences in music and with youth encouraged her to pursue a degree in music education at California State University Northridge. While in college, Callirgos continued to explore many genres of music through ensembles including vocal jazz and African ensemble. Continuing at CSUN, Kelly completed the credential program with high honors and began teaching at CHIME Charter Community School in 2007 building the music program from scratch. Outside of CHIME, Callirgos is President for the Kodaly Association of Southern California (a music education organization), occasionally works with the National Children's Chorus as a musicianship instructor,  and participates in various ensembles throughout the community. Kelly Callirgos is excited to use her experiences in music to provide all children with a fun, safe, and rewarding environment in which to explore the many facets of music.
~Kelly Callirgos
CHIME Music Teacher

Kelly Callirgos currently teaches general music and beginning band at CHIME Charter K-8 School in Woodland Hills. She is proud of her school community which stands for Communities Honoring Inclusive Model Education where students of all abilities learn side by side. The music program she built from scratch in 2007, started with less than 300 students and now serves 700. Kelly Callirgos graduated from CSUN with honors as a Music Education Major. While studying at CSUN, Kelly participated in a variety of clubs, honor societies, exchange programs, and ensembles and received the CSUN Music Department Community Service Award. A year later she received her single-subject credential from the state of California with a 4.0 grade point average. Currently she serves on the Kodály Association for Southern California board as Vice-President and is an active member of the American Orff Schulwerk Association in Los Angeles.
