WHAT IS A TRANSECT?
A transect is an imaginary line between two established points, 80 paces long and an arm span(six feet) wide.
WHAT IS ITS PURPOSE?
The purpose of a transect is to determine the amount of deer and elk traffic through the area.
HOW IS IT MONITORED?
Each month, student monitors travel the length of the transect and record the number of signs of deer and elk activity (pellet groups, tracks, feeding craters, and beds). The monitors also record unidentifiable tracks, dog, human, vehicle and ski tracks, temperature, and snow depth.
