Know your Officers :
Vice President Mike Ontko
Your humble vice president joined the Orange Coast Coin Club in
1994 and became vice president on the death of William Wisslead in
1996. (The Orange Coast Coin Club merged the Garden Grove Coin
Club in 1997 and the old Orange County Coin Club in 1998 to
become the glorious Greater Orange County Coin Club we know and
love today.) Mike may be seen prowling the meetings, buttonholing
innocent victims and arm-twisting them into giving talks for the club.
The one thing he is not humble about is that during his tenure in
office, only one video program has been offered at the club and that
while he was away at an ANA convention in 1999. When he is not at
the beck and call of “She Who Must Be Obeyed”, he may be found
collecting coins of the world, especially Mexico, Latin America and
France.

Bill Pfeifer Secretary
Bill graduated from Ohio State University with a MS degree in
Metallurgical Engineering. He spent his early career in the engineering
development of advanced structural composites, working on rocket
nozzles and exit cones. He finished his career working on carbon -
carbon composite materials for aircraft braking systems. Bill joined
the Greater OC Coin Club in 2008 and became secretary in 2009. He
enjoys collecting US coins from the 19th and 20th century and
specializes in Walking Liberty Half Dollars and Standing Liberty
quarters. Bill is a member of the ANA and currently is president of
CSNA.

Did You Know? The internet is a treasure trove of websites supplying
information on coinage and currency. Major auction companies such
as Heritage, Stack’s Bowers, Goldberg, and Scotsman offer
interesting sites. CoinFactsWiki(www.coinfactswiki.com,)
developed by PCGS in 2008 , is an encyclopedia of U.S. and
World coins.”The "wiki" concept allows users to create and edit
virtually all pages on the website, subject to oversight by system
administrators. This capability allows large volumes of up-to-date
information and images to be added to the website in a short period
of time, creating a massive database of information that is useful to
buyers, sellers, researchers and anyone else interested in
numismatics.”
The CoinFacts Wiki uses the familiar look, feel and format of
Wikipedia, the renowned free online encyclopedia used by millions.
The rules for use are also similar. The site will be monitored, but coin
enthusiasts are free to edit and add to articles at any time. The site
also includes a comprehensive list of FAQs to help the user get
started. The wiki site is full of interesting articles, several written by
our own Mike Ontko.
The ANA website is at www.money.org, CSNA is at www.Calcoin.org,
NASC at www.NASC.net and The California Numismatist is at
www.CalNumismatist.com. The European auction houses (Elsen,
Kunker, Sincona, and Aureo y Calico, ) all have websites. Their
bidding is all done on sixbid.com.
When you have some spare time, visit these websites. You will be
amazed at how much information is at your fingertips.

Education Program: Jerry Kleeb presented a very interesting talk on
Hungarian Inflation Notes that provided a history lesson for the severity of
inflation in the Hungarian republic at the end of WWII . In 1945 and 1946,
the Hungarian pengo experienced the greatest hyperinflation even seen,
leaving behind a wide variety of numismatic artifacts. As usual, the talk
was very detailed showing the complexity of government mismanagement
of the economy along with ravaging of the Hungarian economy by
occupying foreign states of World War II. It is a sad story of the spoils of
war by invading armed forces during/after the war. Nice job Jerry!

Prizes: No gold drawing as held and I missed the winner of the 2 1/2 gold
peso drawing. Will the winner please let me know so I can provide the
