Refreshments: We need volunteers for February

Announcements: Our lease has been renewed for 2018. Prizes to
be raffled in our upcoming meeting are shown in a separate
email; thanks to Mark for providing the photos.

Membership Status:
Membership dues are due. Eighteen members are paid for 2018.
We ended 2017 with over 74 members.
Donations: We thank all volunteers who help our club function
throughout the year.

OC Rare Coin and Bullion (1927 Harbor Blvd. Costa Mesa, CA
92627) continues to donate many valuable coins for our club
auctions. Please reciprocate by giving them your business .

Prize Winners: All members present at our banquet were winners of
numismatic items.

Announcements: It is with great sadness that we announce the
passing of a close friend of Dennis Tarrant; our prayers go out to him.

New Members: Harvey Gamer, Pat Larkin and Bruce Tran
Membership Status: A total of 74 members are current for CY 2017 .
Dues need to be paid now to avoid immediate loss of privileges.

Education Program: Mike O’Brien’s talk “Winning A Gold Medal in
Swimming in 1984” was extremely interesting and different from most
of our talks. Learning about 6-8 hours of daily practice and the many
other obstacles to winning a gold medal was very enlightening. Mike
is truly a local hero, hailing from the Mesa Verde area of Costa Mesa.
Most impressive is Mike’s devotion to teaching children how to swim,
over 50,000 thus far!
Show and Tell: John M. updated his information on a slabbed,
counterfeit gold coin that was “certified “ by NGC. Since there is
considerable interest in this item, it will will be a future talk.

Announcements: Out liability insurance has been renewed for
another year, at the same cost as last year ($400). Glen Franks is
recovering well from his recent surgery; quite a “fighter”. I am hoping
he can make our upcoming meeting.

Membership Status: A total of 71 members are current for CY 2017 .
This will be the last notice on overdue membership dues for CY 2017.
Dues need to be paid now to avoid immediate loss of privileges.

Currency Notes Showing the Progression in Design & Variations in
Colors That Led to Final Approved Notes with Better Security by the
Treasury Department “ The title says it all; another fine talk by Mark.
