Swimming in 1984” was extremely interesting and different from most
of our talks. Learning about 6-8 hours of daily practice and the many

is truly a local hero, hailing from the Mesa Verde area of Costa Mesa.
Most impressive is Mike’s devotion to teaching children how to swim,
over 50,000 thus far!
Show and Tell: John M. updated his information on a slabbed,
counterfeit gold coin that was “certified “ by NGC. Since there is
considerable interest in this item, it will will be a future talk.

Donations: OC Rare Coin and Bullion (1927 Harbor Blvd. Costa
Mesa, CA 92627) continues to donate many valuable coins for our
club auctions. Please reciprocate by giving them your business.

Prize Winners: Kerry J. won the the Dos Pesos.

Know your Officers :
Vice President Mike Ontko
Your humble vice president joined the Orange Coast Coin Club in
1994 and became vice president on the death of William Wisslead in
1996. (The Orange Coast Coin Club merged the Garden Grove Coin
Club in 1997 and the old Orange County Coin Club in 1998 to
become the glorious Greater Orange County Coin Club we know and
love today.) Mike may be seen prowling the meetings, buttonholing
innocent victims and arm-twisting them into giving talks for the club.
The one thing he is not humble about is that during his tenure in
office, only one video program has been offered at the club and that
while he was away at an ANA convention in 1999. When he is not at
the beck and call of “She Who Must Be Obeyed”, he may be found
collecting coins of the world, especially Mexico, Latin America and
France.

Bill Pfeifer Secretary
Bill graduated from Ohio State University with a MS degree in
Metallurgical Engineering. He spent his early career in the engineering
development of advanced structural composites, working on rocket
nozzles and exit cones. He finished his career working on carbon -
carbon composite materials for aircraft braking systems. Bill joined
the Greater OC Coin Club in 2008 and became secretary in 2009. He
enjoys collecting US coins from the 19th and 20th century and
specializes in Walking Liberty Half Dollars and Standing Liberty
quarters. Bill is a member of the ANA and currently is president of
CSNA.
