Therapeutic Massage by Alex in London KY

Massage Therapy helps to release toxins in your body that are built up due to poor posture, work and everyday responsibilities that can cause stress.

Massage helps you to relax for a short period of time, this may be enough to help you see how differently you can feel, and give you a goal to focus on in your recovery from depression.

Massage therapy can help you achieve a greater sense of awareness, making you more inclined to continue using massage to take care of yourself both mentally and physically.

Types of massage techniques

Swedish massage

Combines light stroking in one direction with deep pressure in another to relax muscles.

Deep Tissue Massage

Targets chronic muscle tension using slower strokes and more direct pressure and friction.

Myofascial Release

Used to release tension stored in the fascia (fibrous tissue that encase and support muscles); used after a muscle injury and postural dysfunctions.

Lymphatic

Stimulation of specialized lymphatic-drainage pathways, which improves the body’s removal of edemas and effusion.

Trigger Points

Trigger point therapy is a bodywork technique that involves the applying of pressure to tender muscle tissue in order to relieve pain and dysfunction in other parts of the body. Trigger points cause muscular pain and will refer pain and tenderness to another area of the body when pressure is applied. Trigger points are physical phenomena that can be felt by touch. The pain caused by trigger points may be the biggest cause of disability and loss of time in the workplace. The purpose of trigger point therapy is to eliminate pain and to re-educate the muscles into pain-free habits. After several treatments, the swelling and stiffness of neuromuscular pain is reduced, range of motion is increased, tension is relieved, and circulation, flexibility and coordination are improved.

Tender Points

Combined positioning and specific finger or thumb pressure into tender points in muscle and connective tissue, reduces the hypersensitivity, muscle spasms and referred pain patterns that characterize the point. Left untreated, such tender points often lead to restricted and painful movement of entire body regions. Combination's of these points indicate certain conditions of the body.

Acupressure Points

Applying pressure creates temporary pain at the point of acupressure (it is not harmful or dangerous). Pain forces the Central Nervous System to respond and the body produces natural painkilling hormones, and other hormones to support the healing process. Imbalance of certain hormones and chemicals develop into disorder or energy block... Bio energy (often called Qi or Chi in Traditional Chinese Medicine) is circulated around the body via 14 meridians (energy pathways). There are thousands of acupoints located along the various meridians, each of which is associated with specific organs. Acupressure concentrates on stimulating the same acupoints as acupuncture, but uses finger and thumb pressure instead of needles.

Cross-Fiber

Friction techniques applied in a general manner to create a stretching and broadening effect in large muscle groups; or on site-specific muscle and connective tissue, deep transverse friction applied to reduce adhesion's and to help create strong, flexible repair of tissue, during the healing process.

Compression

Rhythmic compression into muscles used to create a deep hyperemia (increased blood flow in a part of the body) and softening effect in the tissues. It is generally used as a warm-up for deeper, more specific massage work.

Constant compression helps relax the nervous system.
