Language Arts        Grades 5-8

"We make a difference for all kids."

Cabot English Language Arts is a standards-based curriculum shaped by a vision that students will attain academic excellence through setting high expectations and goals.  The middle grades  represent a significant turning point in students' lives. During the middle grades, students solidify conceptions about themselves as learners. They arrive at conclusions about their competence in language arts. Students in these grades need a comprehensive literacy program that encompasses all twelve state standards, including significant amounts of reading and writing. Reading and writing are crucial to success in every area of study and also in situations that arise outside the school setting. Students should see that reading and writing are interconnected with each other and with other content areas in the curriculum.  Students are learning and applying more advanced strategies for reading and writing in order to accomplish more sophisticated tasks.  They are also moving from learning to read and write to reading and writing to learn.
