Asan Social Welfare Foundation board (Chairman Chung, Mong-joon) made decision to build new building beside the existing one as an expansion of Gangneung Asan Hospital (Director Kim, In-Gu).

The construction will be started November 2013. Thirteen-story new building will be made by September 2015. The hospital bed will be increasing from existing 659 beds to 850 beds.

There will be more specified and high technological centers those dealing with joint, digestive, cardiovascular, neurological diseases in the new building. As well as state-of-the-art operating rooms, highest laboratory equipments and hematopoietic stem transplantation center for leukemia treatment plan to be made, too.

In addition, a new model of cyclotron is planned to be installed. Cyclotron is essential instrument to produce radioactive isotopes using for PET-CT scan for the cancer patients. Lack of cyclotron in site makes transport radioactive isotope from Seoul every morning because of short half life of radiotracer. It took lots of time and effort. Installing cyclotron in site can actually overcome the “barriers” and make it possible to examine patient quickly without waiting in line.

Director Kim, In-Gu said “Since 1996 when we first opened GNAH, we have played a central role as the basic hospital in this region. I hope that our hospital well become a central part in national wide with new building. I also hope that we can take a good part of international medical treatment system, too.”
