Trail Conditions and Closures

Corvallis to the Sea Trail

This page will be updated with trail conditions, deer and elk rifle-hunting season date alerts, and closure information.

Corona Virus Trail Status. We have not closed the east half of the trail. That is all on public roads, private roads, or Forest Service lands. Thus, those are not our calls. We do, of course, expect people to follow whatever guidelines are required by the State, Forest Service, or others who have purview of these lands.

Gopher Creek segment seasonal closure - To protect sensitive habitat, there is an annual closure (Nov 1 through Feb 28) of the 1-mile Gopher Creek trail segment about 8 miles west of Big Elk Campground. A 2-mile road detour is available ( see map ).

September 1, 2020 - The Wright Creek Spur Trail to the stream is closed due to ongoing logging operations. Be alert for trucks on the first 1/2 mile of the 5081 Road.

July 19, 2020 - A very large paper wasp nest has been reported close to the trail on the Lower North Ridge Trail between Old Peak Road and the North Ridge Trail parking area. Be aware.

Hiking trail is complete - The last portion of the trail was finished this summer (2020), but is not officially opened. Although there are now signs directing people along the trail there are two Lincoln County roads that still lack signs as installation awaits One Call utility line checks. Read about the current situation for bicycles on the trail.

There may always be timber and forest management activity along the route, so proceed with caution. One site of known recent activity is along Forest Service roads 31 and 3119 where hauling sometimes occurs during on weekdays.

Remember that you need a Starker Forests permit to pass over the Old Peak Road section between the gate 4 miles up Old Peak Road and the gate at mile post 6 on Woods Creek Road.

HUNTING SEASON AWARENESS:

If you go out during big game hunting seasons, especially the deer and elk seasons, always be alert for hunters, wear appropriate colors, e.g. fluorescent orange, and avoid browns or other dark colors, especially with white.

September is bow hunting season and October and November have rifle seasons for both deer and elk.
