BVCCB is searching for a new Music Director!

After 13 years, our director, Kathleen Penza, is steppig down from the podium.  The BVCCB is searching for a new director to begin in January 2016.  Job description and application details are listed below.


BVCCB Music Director Position Description

The Director conducts and is responsible for all rehearsals and performances of the Band, with the aid of the Assistant Director. He/she selects the musical literature to be rehearsal and performed by the band. The Director has control over the artistic decisions, taking into account the history/traditions of the community band and will be open to suggestions from the Board of Directors and Band Members.

The Director is a non-voting member of the Board of Directors and is expected to attend board meetings, providing input into the direction and administration of the band.

Stipend to be negotiated.

Qualifications/Skills

 Has prior conducting experience and knowledge of band literature

 Demonstrate superior leadership qualities with conducting, teaching and communication skills

 Has the ability to work with high school and adult musicians of all skills and commitment levels

 Has excellent organizational skills

Prospective conductors will be invited to attend and lead a rehearsal of the Band beginning in September 2015.

The new Director start date is January 7, 2016.

Our History

The Blackstone Valley Community Concert Band was founded in April of 2002 under the name of The Uxbridge Community Band. The name was changed in March of 2004 to better reflect the scope of our membership. The BVCCB is currently comprised of 60-70 talented instrumentalists who range in age from 11 to 80! Membership in the BVCCB is open to instrumentalists from throughout the Blackstone Valley and beyond. Although there are no formal auditions, high school proficiency is recommended. The band rehearses on Thursday Evenings, from 7-9 PM, in the auditorium of The Uxbridge High School on Route 146A in Uxbridge, Ma.

The Blackstone Valley Community Concert Band (BVCCB)is a non-profit organization made up of musicians, young and old, from throughout the Valley and neighboring communities.  Over the years, the BVCCB has become a Valley favorite, achieving a solid reputation through a display of their fine musicianship and crowd pleasing performances. They provide a popular variety of concert band repertoire to their audience, from Show Tunes to Sousa!
