Free Icecream
Free Icecream
For 7DOS Cuisine Theme This was taken by my daughter in the back of a restaurant with no artificial lighting. She didn't use the flash, and I was too excited by the iceream to care, until . . . . . I got to editing. It was too dark, so I had to copy it to another layer, then lift the levels on the new layer as much as I could to recover the other people in the shot as I really wanted the kids in it. This blew me away, no not the mountain of free iceream, but the lightcoloured T-shirt and container, so I had to add a mask and which basically adjusts the opacity of the content of the image. So you can use only part of the mask (which covers all of the layer) to lighten or darken some part of the layer. I brushed out the part of myself which restored the light balance of me, and the rest of the people. Masks are very useful, and non-destructive, and you should learn how to use them. I managed to contact a neighbour this morning, and were told that our house has so far escaped water. That was wonderful news. There is no electricity in the suburb where live, and it won't be on for some days. Also, while my focus and much of the TV coveragge is on Brisbane, there is still lots of flooding devestation in regional Queensland and now New South Wales. I managed to find a positive story from the flooding. We all walked around as far we could go, and ended up in Park Road shops. There were no cars of course, and people walking around out of curiosity and boredom, when we passed a restaurant and heard someone saying "Here's some people now". There is no electricity, and so all the shops and restaurants are closed. They asked us to come in, and eat or take as much free icecream as we wanted. Their freezers were without power for a couple of days, and the icecream was going to melt today, so we found the kids inside in a place called "7th heaven". I was handed a small tub and a spoon. Naturally I have to watch my weight, so after 10 mintues had to give it away, and it was only 10am, so didn't want to set any new precedents. They asked us to spread the word as we left. So we passed the word on the street, and it was nice to see kids eyes popping open at the news. As we walked on, some were calling friends and I said to Rumblemumbles that it could go viral. A little later. a couple we told were walking quickly back to their apartment with a full unopened tub. Much later at the opposite end of the streets we could walk, we met the apartment managers from where we are staying, and he got off his mobile phone and said "There's free icecream at Park Road" We said we know, we started it. The water marks on the roads and the buildings we used as a reference site, are definitely showing signs of receding water. The floating walkway that used to be next to the New Farm cliffs, and cost millions of dollars some years ago, broke away last night and a 300m length was the biggest piece to float away. Tugs boats managed to secure it at the mouth of the river and were going to beach it on the mudflats. I think we won't see the walkway for many years, if ever again. More photos follow. Cuisine Theme
Do You Get The Feeling Someone Is Watching?
Do You Get The Feeling Someone Is Watching?
Yesterday, a new extension to the Brisbane underground busway was opened beneath the CBD. As is usual, the Government was keen to let the taxpayers see where all the money went, and so they opened it up to the public for the day, as an exercise in self-promotion and to again measure the lengths that some people will go to for something free. Among others, I was agog at the length of the queue to get a free Krispy Kreme doughnut. And it was obvious that, like every other place in the world today, the ubiquitous security camera was lurking there, watching what we humans do. This is a picture of a monitor high up in the ceiling. Why - I don't know.
