Elvis Presley's Grave in the Meditation Garden at the Graceland Mansion in Memphis, Tennessee
This is a photograph that I took in the Meditation Garden on the grounds of Elvis Presley's Graceland mansion in the city of Memphis, Tennessee. The Meditation Garden is the final resting place of Elvis, his parents, and his grandmother. Elvis was originally entombed in a local cemetery but his father, Vernon Presley, obtained a permit from the city of Memphis to have his son's body buried on the Graceland property. This move was done secretly in October 1977, two months after Elvis' death. His grave was closed to the public until the 1980's when Priscilla Presley turned the Graceland estate into a tourist attraction. When you visit the Meditation Garden, you get the realization that Elvis did not fake his death because there is a feeling there that cannot be described.
Elvis Presley is shown with his Gibson J-200 guitar in a 1957 MGM studio publicity photo. Born in Tupelo, Miss., Elvis was an immediate sensation in the mid-1950s with his blend of blues rock and rockabilly. Because of his stage gyrations, television producers initially refused to show him below the waist on screen. Critics called him "Elvis the Pelvis," but his fans called him the "King of Rock 'n' Roll." The Elvis empire grew with live performances, records, films and a grand estate in Memphis,Tenn., known worldwide as Graceland. Elvis died at Graceland on Aug. 16, 1977. He was 42. (AP Photo)
