Still In The Lab? Distillation made heuristic. Nothing explains a process like a little hands-on experience, and this laboratory distillation kit is for showing instead of telling. Includes a 300mm Liebig condenser, Kjeldahl distilling column with 50mm dia bulb and rubber stoppers, 500ml Bomex boiling flask with 8" iron tripod, 2-foot lab stand/base with a single burette clamp, 500ml graduated Erlenmeyer flask and a 6" square of ceramic-coated wire gauze. Keny Marshall - 5
Keny Marshall - 5
Keny Marshall mechanical operation – intersecting rotational equipment. (2009) steel, aluminum, potmetal, bronze M.O.I.R.E. is a mechanically activated optical illusion based on the human eye’s tendency to simplify complex visual signals. This device furthur complicates the viewers interaction by requiring two participants to fully appreciate the intent – one to be the viewer and another to be the unseen activator. Keny Marshall builds kinetic, sometimes robotic art that plays with technology and how people relate to it. Hand-built devices are combined in seemingly ridiculous ways as a means of critiquing the increasingly invisible world that technology inhabits. Electric motors, surplus lab equipment, and scrap hardware are (re)sourced to build systems with transparent inner workings to counteract the “blackbox” nature of present technology.
burninator under repair
burninator under repair
Carmo (that's Dr. V to you) took posession of the burninator, surplus-style from the University of Idaho. It all started when she contacted a company that had made this piece of lab equipment in the past, to see if they had any used ones. The Dept. of Viticulture doesn't have quite the same budget as the biological sciences that are involved in petrol industries more directly. They told her they no longer made this model, but suspected the one @ Idaho was about to go into storage since they'd just sent them a new one. They sent it to her for the cost of shipping alone. Since then, she has been trying to repair it. Despite being the author of dozens of scientific papers, Ph.D and fluent speaker of at least 5 languages, she doesn't know how to read a schematic. Sometimes the old tech school eduation comes in handy.

Spring Method: Simply slip pre-cut wires and components into special springs for a safe, secure connection.

Breadboard Method: Featured in our advanced kits, this system is used by professionals and engineers. Just plug the components and wires into the special breadboard socket holes.

No soldering is required. Everything uses safe battery power - no dangerous AC is required, so it's safe for all ages. Labs come with all components and wires needed to build each project. NO TOOLS ARE REQUIRED. No prior knowledge is needed to assemble and build these exciting projects. Easy-to-read, illustrated, lab-style manuals take you through each electronic experiment step-by-step. All are designed for ages 10 & up, so these are ideal for MIDDLE SCHOOLS and HIGH SCHOOLS.
