Tall Orange Flowers (Knipofia / Torch Lily / Red Hot Poker) by Antari Foster
Kniphofia uvaria is also known as Tritoma, Torch Lily or Red Hot Poker due to the shape and color of its inflorescence. The leaves are reminiscent of a lily, and the flowerhead can reach up to 5 feet in height. There are many varieties of torch lily, and they bloom at different times during the growing season. The flowers are red, orange, and yellow. It originates from South Africa, and has been introduced into many parts of the world, such as North America, New Zealand and Europe as a garden plant. (source: Wikipedia) This one was photographed in Neston, South Wirral, North West of England. To be honest with you, Orange is the colour I like the least. I love purple but my best friend said that's the colour for a widow (huh???????!!!!! Exactly!!!!); anyway, since she loves orange I try to take pictures of orange coloured stuff.
Orange Cosmos Flowers [Cosmos sulphureus]; Keihin Canal, Tokyo
A group of Japanorama's students were down in my neighbourhood yesterday, by the Keihin Canal in Tachiaigawa, shooting a group workshop with a model. I had some time to shoot some pics of the orange Cosmos flowers which are currently covering the banks of the canal. Beautiful. The bokeh on this old 85mm f/2 AiS lens is a bit hard-edged, as the lens is old and it green-fringes when it is wide-open. But, pretty nonetheless. Nikon D300 Nikkor 85mm f/2 AiS @ f/2
