My specialism:

Over time, and having also worked for many years as a Couple Counsellor with Relate, I have developed a particular speciality and passion for working with couples. I am experienced in working with the many issues that can impact on couple relationships, such as communication difficulties; sexual difficulties; financial constraints; step-families; bereavement; physical and emotional illness; addictions and cross-cultural differences. I usually start with an introductory session for the couple followed by an individual session each, before commencing on-going couple therapy.

I am UKCP and AFT Registered, and bound by UKCP Codes of Ethics and Practice

I am available at the Bushey Therapy Centre on Thursday and Friday mornings. Other times may be possible.

My Background:

Prior to training as a Systemic Psychotherapist I worked in the Public Sector, initially as a Social Worker in Children & Families, then moving to CAMHS (Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service) as a Clinic Social Worker. My move to CAMHS inspired me to think about a career change into the field of psychotherapy and I re-trained for four years at the Tavistock, after which I was employed in a CAMHS Service as a Family Therapist, primarily in the field of Eating Disorders.

What is a Systemic Psychotherapist?

Systemic Psychotherapists are often known as Family Therapists. Family Therapists recognise that different cultures and groups have different ideas about the meaning of ‘family’ and so understand ‘family’ as describing any group of people who care about each other and define themselves in this way. Family Therapy may therefore include parents, children, sibling groups, grandparents; aunts; uncles; cousins and carers.
