Tips for Becoming a Better Planner

Being a great strategic planner means sorting through the clutter and finding the best route. In order to be a successful strategist’s one must discard the paths that lead nowhere as well as paths that lead into a fog of confusion. It is the ability to cull and make selections that will lead to the chosen path-your strategy. This will make you a great strategic planner.  In the following section I have prepared some Ideas for action that will take any regular person and help them become a better strategic planner.

Taking Action:

  • ·         First of all, you must take some time to fully reflect about a goal you want to achieve. This reflection time is essential to strategic planning.
  • ·         Next, you must plan out a range of responses to your reflections repercussions in detail. You must plan out strategies to be ready to face the challenges that await you.

  • ·         Discuss your strategy ideas with a group, leader, or mentor. This can help you become a better leader.

  • ·         Fully consider all possible paths toward making the vision a reality. A positive attitude can remove obstacles before they even appear.

  • ·         Make yourself known to your subordinates, peers, and leaders as a resource for problem solving. Being optimistic is a great way to do this. When others see that you see a solution when others don’t will empower them to do the same.

  • ·         Anticipate potential issues before they arise. In order to avoid pitfalls you must share your insights with others. This will generate a higher level of trust in your workplace and will help prevent possible future obstacles.

  • ·         Never belittle anyone’s ideas. Instead, consider everyone’s ideas while still keeping your end goal in sight. You want to let others know that you want the overall goal to be accomplished just as much as they do.

  • ·         Always trust your intuitive insights. Have confidence in your perceptions because even though you might not know for sure what will happen it’ s better to share them than to stay quiet.

  • ·         Partner with someone who possesses different talents than you. With the need for each other, you will both be empowered to take risks and make decisions. This will forge a powerful partnership.

  • ·         Always be involved in the planning process of new initiatives. Voicing innovative ideas are critical in the creation of a new venture because it will limit the possibility for errors.
  • ·         Share past successes with the people in your filed. This will generate trust and openness on their end as well.
  • Lastly, always remember that everyone is different and everywhere you go and everyone you meet are new opportunities to further develop effective planning process skills.
