Basket Weaving for Beginners (8 participants max.)

Learn the basic art of basketry in this course for beginners. Historically, any basket with a flat bottom, either square or rectangular has been broadly classified as a market basket. You will be guided step by step through each stage of the basket-making process while creating a market basket measuring approximately 7" x 10", using rattan reed. You will learn various weaving techniques that will help you gain the knowledge needed to continue with this craft. A $20 material fee will be collected by the instructor at the beginning of the class. Participants are asked to bring a bag lunch to class. The senior discount does not apply: the full fee is required.

Quilting – For the Birds (6 participants max.)
Create this small wall hanging (14” x 18.5”) with two bird houses and a checkerboard board. You will need to bring your portable sewing machine and a basic sewing kit. A material kit is availabl
e for $18 at the first class.

Quilting – Panels & Prints (6 participants max.)
Do you have a fabric panel or large scale prints in your stash and wondered how to them? Turn the panel (22.5” by 40.5”) into a beautiful lap quilt (48” x 66”). You will need to bring your portable sewing machine and a basic sewing kit.

Quilting –T-shirt Memory Quilt (6 participants max.)
Have you been saving your child’s favourite t-shirts or sports jerseys? Do you want to get the "memories" out of the boxes and drawers? This class will give you ideas on how to turn treasured clothing into a lap or bed quilt. In the first class, we’ll create a custom design and prepare your t-shirts for cutting. The second class you will start sewing your quilt top. You will need to purchase 2 metres of iron-on medium weight knit interfacing to stabilize the t-shirts for sewing.

Quilting – Spring Florals (6 participants max.)
Create this quilt (38.5” x 38.5”) as a wall hanging or a table topper. Techniques include 9 patch stratas and half square triangles in two different sizes. You will need to bring your portable sewing machine and a basic sewing kit.

Spinning - Drop Spindle Method (6 participants max.)

Learn the ancient art of spindle spinning and turn wool into yarn. Spindle spinning is affordable, portable and fun. Our instructor will guide you through the process of making yarn and discuss the history of spindles. A $20.00 material fee will be collected at the beginning of the class.

Weaving – Rigid Heddle (5 participants max.)
Similar to the children’s looms you might have had growing up a rigid heddle loom offers you the option of learning very basic weaving while still creating work you will be proud to show off. In this one day beginning workshop you will become familiar with the loom and weaving terminology, learn direct warping, practice basic weaving skills, and weave a table runner. A material fee of $15 will apply. No experience necessary.

Weaving for Beginners #1 (6 participants max.)
Spend the week day learning to weave! From winding the warp to setting up your own 4 shaft table loom and exploring different weave structures, you will create your own small samples, 'mug rugs,' to take home. A $10 materials fee will be collected at the first class. All equipment and materials are provided. A Participants are asked to bring a bag lunch to class. The senior discount does not apply: the full fee is required.
