Since the late 1960's the club had been involved with the annual evening “steam-up” at a local hostelry, usually the second Saturday of October, initially raising funds for the local scout group and hospital.  This proved very popular with members, enthusiasts and public alike, and during the last 15 years over £23,000 has been raised for local charities such as Thames Hospice Care, Thames Valley Air Ambulance and Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service.
