TIRZ 17 plans to spend about $11.3 million in fiscal year 2014, primarily on three projects — drainage on Barryknoll, Lumpkin Road improvements and construction of the W-140 detention basin.

Directors were presented a preliminary budget and capital improvement plan at the Tuesday, May 28, meeting, which will be forwarded to the city of Houston for review and approval. The TIRZ budget year starts July 1.

The TIRZ 17 board also adopted a resolution at that meeting that puts a renewed emphasis on drainage and detention projects.

TIRZ 17 in 2011 bought nearly 8 acres north of I-10 and just east of Bunker Hill Road for a detention facility along Briar Branch Creek.

Design plans are still being reviewed by the Harris County Flood Control District, but the board authorized a $329,820 contract last week for relocation of utilities that run across the site.

The project’s second phase will be the actual digging and construction of the detention basin.
