Communication Breakdown
Communication Breakdown
One of the very first shots I ever posted on line, taken in 2003 with my first digital camera. I like to think it is iconic. That is the logo of a phone company and that is on the perspex door of a public phone box. Numerous mindless folk have visited the box and scratched over it obscuring the view. It is a contrast of visions. The classic communication logo looking skyward with hope and the moron in the phone box entombed in their self-centred life style with no credible ambition. There is a significant sub class of the species that abuse facilities and , for example , use phone boxes , not just for their intended purpose but also as a toilet or an object to deface or destroy. Typically they are poor on communication skills and hence tend to use expletives in their everyday language. In literature the thin veneer of civilisation has oft been explored , Lord of the Flies etc and that awful Big Brother TV programme seems to embody the view that when no body is looking , many people are no where near as civil or civilised as they appear. Do the inmates forget they are being watched ? I doubt it. With the Jade Goody outrage what staggers me is that these people who sign up for the house know that they are going to be scutinised 24 7. She made celebrity through notoriety and cleverly exploited this to make herself rich. I seem to recall seeing her in the past on chat shows and working carefully to try to impress her audience that underneath she wasn't an ignorant lout but a thoughtful and genuine person, a so called rough diamond. It is OK to be outspoken and be yourself but with that comes a responsibility to others in my view. With freedom comes responsibility. Miss Goody is doing the rounds again on a damage limitation exercise trying to rescue her "career." There is this whole celeb industry in the UK and a large section of society seem to have an insatiable appetite for smut and scandal especially on those in the media limelight. The easy route to fame, it seems , is to outrage either through sexual misconduct or loutish behaviour. It isn't about having unique talents or skill. All publicity is good publicity. The Big Brother "reality " programme provides an instant way in to the palace of celebrity whoever you are. OK there have been people who have talent and who already have celebrity status voluntarily signing up for the programme but I can't imagine why anyone with a successful career and who is already a valid and genuine celebrity would sign up for this.
The fall of Jade? Nah. Another show no doubt.
The fall of Jade? Nah. Another show no doubt.
OK I will say this only once. This is pure utter un-adulterated bollocks to the millionth degree. They are all desparate celebrity junkies working the media hype system for all it's worth. Everyone is making money. Every stupid text message you send to vote on BB goes to making a fat wad of cash for the broadcasters. Every time you read these bullshit articles, the publishers make more dough. The BB ratings went up the moment we all heard of racist abuse. That makes me disgusted at how hypnotised by marketing nonsense we all are; we actually tuned in to watch. Think about that. Spot the MPs: they would rather bring this marketing crap up in parliament than discuss how *we* YES WE - WE are invading foreign countries. Isn't that racist? Ah but some local celebrities slagging off an Indian celebrity makes it into parliament. Think about it. It's hypocritical diversion material. Wake up. Each one of these celebrities will go on to make another show out of the 'outrage' that is the basic truth that our sad jaded ex-colonial society is racist and homophobic and desparate. But the next shows won't say that - they will follow this UK 'celebrity' around while she hugs poor Indians and pockets a cool X million pounds (after a pathetic token charitable donation). I bet you anything you like that there will be a show about Jade learning about multi-culturalism. You doubt it? If you do, you have been blinded and are officially dumb: Get a grip. Squeegee your third eye. You are being fucked with. End of story. 1. Boycott this crap 2. Make a complaint to ofcom while you can. It's pointless but it will make you feel better 3. Boycott this crap
