The Chicago Spire
Watch the Spire rise above the Chicago lakefront
When not staring out the window at the Spire while being "wintered in" at the cold windy port of Chicago, I coauthor a blog and maintain a website about cruising around the Great Lakes in our boat. To someone like me, the Chicago Spire is just one of many interesting sites found in the towns and harbors of the Great Lakes.
What is the Chicago Spire?
The Chicago Spire is a 2000 foot tall residential high rise designed by Santiago Calatrava. To be located at the mouth of the Chicago River, the Spire is shaping up to be an artistic and architectural gem. Construction crews began site work in 2007.
Although the Chicago Spire opened a sales center in January 2008, buyers aren't expected to move in until 2012.
