here are some lyrics to read: "Oh it's a mystery to me. We have a greed, with which we have agreed... and you think you have to want more than you need... until you have it all, you won't be free. Society, you're a crazy breed. I hope you're not lonely, without me. When you want more than you have, you think you need... and when you think more then you want, your thoughts begin to bleed. I think I need to find a bigger place... cause when you have more than you think, you need more space. Society, you're a crazy breed. I hope you're not lonely, without me. Society, crazy indeed... I hope you're not lonely, without me. There's those thinkin' more or less, less is more, but if less is more, how you keepin' score? It means for every point you make, your level drops. Kinda like you're startin' from the top... and you can't do that. Society, you're a crazy breed. I hope you're not lonely, without me. Society, crazy indeed... I hope you're not lonely, without me Society, have mercy on me. I hope you're not angry, if I disagree. Society, crazy indeed. I hope you're not lonely... without me." this is a song from INTO THE WILD [by eddie vedder]. which is a great movie and book. i'm not that extreme, but i admire it a whole hell of a lot. as for the questions you guys were asking yesterday i am planning to be a CHID major [comparative history of ideas]. it's usually referred to as a "cop-out" major, because you can basically build your own dependent upon your interests. so not really cop-out at all, but tailored to your liking. right now i'm taking a CHID class on diversity. i'm in a social change quiz section, and my group project focuses on women and violence. i'm really into helping to fix the world problems. i used to work for an organization that tried to fix problems by changing policy and law. i'm not that into politics, so it wasn't quite right for me. but i absolutely love working with other dedicated people to help give support to certain groups, or supply food for the poor, etc. i want to help change things, but not through politics [although i do believe that policy change is absolutely necessary in some cases... i just don't want to deal with it]. i don't believe that there is anything better i could be doing with my life than helping others. no other job would feel right, or justified in my eyes. i would live a guilty life if i did not spend the majority of it helping others when i can. as for today's picture.... it's my lovely shag carpet again. i've grown fond of it. interesting texture. ugly color. still no face. maybe tomorrow. [and apologies for the essay of sorts. haha. but thanks for reading through if you did!]
The Hardsell
The Hardsell
Ok - so we're ambling around the Medina (like you do) and some geezer keeps telling us the tanneries are over there. "Here I show you where they are. No charge." - we're not really listening as such and just amble around some more. However we appear to be ambling around in the same direction. Eventually we end up at a Tannery and we're introduced to some other geezer who gives us some mint to mask the smell and gives a little spiel about how the leather is made. I seem to recall him saying "piss and shit" a lot. Anyway he takes us to this place where we can view the whole thing from higher up and take photos. As we go up to the roof we notice we are passing through a shop. we take some pics up there and then head down where we're invited to sit down and have a look at the produce. so we get a little bit about the leather poufs and then the geezer (at the right of the picture) starts the hardsell on them. Writing down a price then my mate writing down a counter price. Except she keeps saying she's not interested in the poufs but would like a slipper, now this guy keeps saying "just for fun" to this and basically ignoring her. Eventually he gets the message and starts on the slippers, unfortunately for him she has now tired of the whole exercise and says "no. not now. I'm tired of haggling" and we walk off. He theatrically throws his pen on the floor. Not very good sales if you ask me. Incidentally he was asking something like 700 dirham for the pouf, which can be obtained for a fixed price of 300 dirham in the artisans market.
