BIG Bulletin 2019

posted 24 Feb 2019, 06:20 by Martin Harvey

Any news or articles relating to insects and other invertebrates in Buckinghamshire would be welcome for our Bulletin. Editor Peter Hall will be compiling the 2019 issue during March, so please get your words and images to him ASAP! The Bulletin is likely to be circulated in late March or early April.

You don't need to write detailed essays or worry about being an 'expert', if it's about bugs in Bucks and interests you it will interest others in the group!

See below for Peter's guidelines for submitting articles. They can be emailed to Peter (contact us if you don't have Peter's address).

Previous Bulletins can be downloaded here.

BIG Bulletin article guidance
Whilst all formats will be accepted, including hand written and typewriter versions, the repeat workload can be minimised by adhering to the following guidelines.

Although the BIG bulletin is published in dual column format, there is no need to submit text in this way. Dual column format means that tables are limited in most cases to relevant information.  As described at BIG meetings, these reports are not designed to replace submission of records to the relevant bodies, but more a summary of findings for likeminded enthusiasts.

For text please adopt the following.  Font is Tahoma.  For Article titles, the title is in bold 12 point size.  The author immediately below is in Bold Italic 11 point size.  Following text is 12 point without “bold” selected.  After each full stop, please double space.  Paragraphs are not indented, but a clear line of no text is between each paragraph.  Species names are in italics.

Photographs are welcome.  I can happily reduce the pixel size to accommodate images into the bulletin, but I ask that you send the images as separate files, preferably as jpegs.

Spring Indoor Meeting

posted 13 Jan 2019, 07:08 by Nigel Partridge   [ updated 13 Jan 2019, 07:10 ]

Our spring indoor meeting will be on: Saturday 23rd February 2019, 10am to 1pm

We are meeting at our usual venue: Buckinghamshire County Museum Resource Centre, Tring Road, Halton, Aylesbury, HP22 5PN

For a map see: http://binged.it/1Go00gb

There is usually less to report at our spring meeting, so if anyone would like to offer a slightly longer presentation, or just show off a few insect photos, that would be welcome - let Martin Harvey know if you can bring anything, or have anything else to add to the agenda.

As usual, please also bring along all your news and views, and latest reports of spring sightings. Exhibits of specimens, photos or other invertebrate-related items are welcome (a copy to Martin Harvey via email for the meeting notes would be appreciated). We will also be sorting out our programme for field meetings later in the year.

Thanks as always to BMERC and Bucks County Museum for supporting BIG.

Agenda for the BIG meeting on 23 Feb:

- Reports from members

BIG Bulletin and field meetings for 2017

posted 21 Apr 2017, 13:19 by Martin Harvey

Members of BIG should have received the 2017 Bulletin and the field meeting details for the coming season. New members are always welcome - you can join our (free) mailing list by contacting BMERC (erc@buckscc.gov.uk), and to get a copy of the meeting details or Bulletin please contact BIG.

If you've never been to one of our field meetings why not make this the year to try them out! Beginners and experienced entomologists are equally welcome, and its a chance to meet others with an interest in studying and recording insects in some great locations around the county.
