This is the public site for BSU CS345/545, the Human-Computer Interaction course in the Computer Science Department at Ball State University. Our focus for this semester is on HCI issues in mobile applications, specifically on the Android platform. Students are working in teams to develop new and useful smart phone applications.
If you have any questions, contact Professor Gestwicki.
I have just emailed all the teams their project grades. Please refer to the project evaluation page before sending any questions, but don't hesitate to ask if you do need a clarification or think there was an error.
This brings our semester's ad hoc think tank experiment to a close. I have enjoyed working with the team, and I hope it has been a fruitful learning experience.
As announced in today's meeting, you need to get your exercise submissions to Austin by 11:59PM on Sunday.
For the reflections, I expect five good reflections before the final meeting. If it takes writing some suboptimal ones along the way, that's fine with me; I just want five good ones.
If you have posters from this semester that you do not want to keep, the CS Department will be glad to accept them. We would use them to advertise our programs, for example, by putting them in the cases on first floor RB, or showing them off to interested parties.
Feel free to bring posters to our Thursday meeting, to our final meeting next week, to my office hours, or right to RB455 (although the office staff may not understand why you dropped them off --- tell them it's for Dr. Buis).
To support the adjournment of this learning experience, you are required to do the following:
The G1 phones will be collected starting immediately after the final exam slot. I will post specific times that Austin or I will be available to receive them.
Jim Solenberg sent me a copy of his slides from yesterday's presentation. I have posted them on the (private) Google Group for this course. I really enjoyed his presentation, and I hope also found it useful. His email address is in the slides, and I'm sure he'd be glad to hear any specific comments you have, too.
I have updated the project evaluation page to reflect the discussion from 4/15. Let me know if you still have any questions.
I did not mention this explicitly yesterday, but I hope that you remember to ground your revised posters in the project evaluation guide.
I will be cutting my office hours short on Wednesday, April 14. I have a meeting at 3pm, so I will be ending office hours around 2:50 instead of the usual 3:30. As always, I'm happy to set up appointments at other times --- just send an email.
I have fleshed out the calendar for the last few weeks of the semester. I am also pleased to announce that our guest speaker on April 20 will be Jim Solenberg, Chief Architect from LaViaz Mobile, a company in Indianapolis that specializes in mobile applications. He will talk to us about user interface design and development for mobile devices from a professional's point of view.
I will be presenting at the Emerging Media Faculty Symposium on Thursday, and so I may be late to our meeting. We'll make it a consulting day. Austin should be there from 12:30 to help, and of course I encourage cross-team collaborations (consulting, UI feedback, etc.). I will come to the meeting as soon as I am able.
