OPERATION SHOEBOX -- Boxes due Nov 17-18; JINGLE RUN 2018

posted Jan 5, 2018, 12:11 PM by Beautiful Savior   [ updated Nov 16, 2018, 7:50 AM ]
Beautiful Savior Church is supporting Operation Christmas Child this year and we are asking for your support and prayers.

Who: Share Christmas with a child in need overseas!

  • All filled SHOEBOXES MUST BE RETURNED TO CHURCH NO LATER THAN WEEKEND OF NOVEMBER 17- 18
  • Just place your filled shoebox on or under the table in the Fellowship Hall.
How:  Mark the outside of your SHOEBOX with a tag saying either Boy or Girl and age group and place your check for $9.00 (for shipping) payable to Beautiful Savior ( or include cash) in the box on top of the gifts.

Background: Operation Child (OCC) is one of the ministries of Franklin Graham’s Christian missionary organization, SAMARITAN’S PURSE. OCC was created by David Cook and his wife Gill for children in Romania. Each November thousands of churches, groups and individual donors prepare and collect shoeboxes with toys, school supplies, and other small gifts. Bible story booklet is often included in the shoebox along with the other items. The boxes are then shipped to distribution sites and shipped overseas by volunteers.  Thank you for supporting this program.

RESULTS SO FAR!

  • 89 children will have a happier Christmas this year, thanks to the generosity of our parish family.  That is how many shoe boxes were collected and brought to the collection center at Nativity Church on Wednesday.  So we thank you all for sharing your love and kind-heartedness.  Also, many thanks to Ann King and Donna Taylor who shepherded this event.

DISASTER RESPONSE  -- Learn How to Help with "LERT"

The Florida Georgia District of the LCMS has a program for training people in disaster response called LERT, Lutheran Early Response Team.  It has been used in a variety of disasters such as hurricanes and floods over the last 15 years to mitigate damage following disasters from Texas to North Carolina.

  • LERT or similar training and certification is required to access disaster areas following an event such as a hurricane or flood.

·
We are trying to gage whether there are enough people in the congregation interested in this type of program to pursue the idea further.

·      Several people have indicated an interest this past week.

·     ACTION NEEDED:

If you have an interest in volunteering for this program, please contact one of the following: Pastor Leavitt, Dick Wilson, Dennis Bonneau, or the church office.
