2/11/14- WE DID IT!
Our Community Conversations meeting was a success!
The community really came together. We had state reps, city council members, public safety officials, business owners, community organizers, school officials and parents- all representing our school district community of Oak Park, Huntington Woods and Berkley. We even had guests from Lansing that heard about what we were doing and made the long, cold trek out to our meeting just to witness it and learn from it!

What really moved me was the support and participation of the Berkely Schools staff. We had the Superintendent, who gave opening remarks, the Director of Special Education, two principals, several teachers and even more paraprfessionals in attendance. It was an action-oriented meeting, and we walked away with lots of ideas, but even more importantly commitments on behalf of many of the attendees to take some kind of action, big or small, to help increase vocational and social/recreational opportunities for individuals with disabilities in our community.

What's next?  The follow up!  We will be in touch again very soon to turn all of the well intended ideas and offerings into ACTION.

Thanks friends!  We pulled off something great this evening!  Be sure to check out the photo gallery to see us in action.
