Scoutmaster Conferences

The Scoutmaster conference is essentially a one-to-one discussion between the Scoutmaster or Assistant Scoutmaster and the Scout. It is the Scout's time to spend with the Scoutmaster to discuss anything. In most cases, the Scoutmaster Conference is used to examine the Scouts growth, their understanding of the ideals of Scouting, a review of the their current achievements and preparation for their next level of achievement. During a advancement Scoutmaster Conference, the Scout will be reveiwed on what they have learned during their time in Scouts so far and how are they using the Ideals of Scouting in their everyday lives. At times, the Scoutmaster may schedule another conference if it is determined that the Scout is not yet ready for advancement or has not met the requirements for rank advancement have not been met. In addition, a Scoutmaster Conference can be used to discuss the Scouts lack of advancement, trouble between the Scout and other youths or events at the last campout or event. A Scoutmaster conference can be scheduled either by the Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster or Scout.

Board of Review

The Board of Review consist of 3 to 6 members of the troop committee. A Scoutmaster/Assistant Scoutmaster is not part of a Board of Review. Is is also a chance to examine the Scouts growth and understanding of the Ideals of Scouting. However, it is different because it is really designed to ensure that the standards of Boy Scouts are implemented in the troop. It is a give-and-take discussion between the Scout and a group of adults to make sure that all of the benefits of scouting are available in the troop, that the Scout is having fun and growing and how the Troop as a whole can be better. As with the Scoutmaster Conference, committee members or the Scout can request a Board of Review.

Scheduling and attending a SMC and BOR

Both the Scoutmaster Conference and Board of Review are scheduled monthly (with the exception of summer months) for advancement purposes. The dates can be found on and scheduled through the troop calendar. When a Scout is attending their SMC and BOR, they should be fully prepared to participate in discussion, be in full class A uniform and bring their handbooks with them.
