University Schedule Check-in begins 7:30 am

Opening ceremony and Keynote Address begins at 8:30 am

Classes begin 9:00 am

Classes end 3:55 pm

Registration fee includes lunch and up to 6 courses.


Spirit of Adventure Council’s University of Scouting will be an exciting day of Scouting camaraderie and learning for adult volunteers. This one-day training event is designed for all Scout leaders regardless of experience. Meet and talk with representatives, outfitters and experts from Scouting and the community.


This is a terrific opportunity to make your Scouting program better for your Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Varsity Scouts and Venturers and make it easier for you by bringing home new resources and new ideas.

A sampling of courses for adult leaders include: Dutch Oven cooking, MB Counselor Training, Pack Administration, EDGE, Family Involvement. Youth members (Venturers and Scouts) can participate in Leadership Training.

Scouting 9:00 AM SCT110 Effective Courts of Honor 

Courts of Honor don’t have to be elaborate to recognize the work done by your Scouts, and even Eagle Courts of Honor are frequently more complex than necessary. This module focuses on planning COH that emphasize the right things without being unduly time-consuming or difficult to orchestrate. 

9:00 AM SCT214 Life to Eagle and Beyond 

Yes there IS a beyond! Help your scout meet the necessary requirements to achieve Scouting's ultimate goal, including how to motivate Scouts not to put off getting those Eagle-required merit badges, PLUS explore ways to keep your new Eagle Scout engaged in your unit.

Got some Scouts that are tired of merit badges? Tired of rank requirements? Here are some awards that boys can earn that aren’t the same old same old. 9:00 AM 

SCT201 The Patrol Method-Building Patrol Spirit 

The effective use of the patrol method is the foundation of good Scouting, and the source of early exposure to teamwork, leadership, service to others, and independent activity. This module outlines the process for insuring that this vital experience is maximized in your Scout troop. 

Scouting 12:00 PM SCT122 Camping on State and National Forest Land 

New Looking for new locations for the troop to go camping? Find out about Scout friendly State and National campgrounds. 

12:00 PM SCT206 Cold Weather Camping 

Camping with Scouts in cold weather is a craft that can produce exhilarating and memorable experiences, but it has to be done well to be safe and enjoyable for everyone. 

12:00 PM SCT302 Great Cycling Trips in New England 

Learn inside information on great cycling, or bike/hike trips in New England that are ideal for Scout activities whether short or long. The logistical considerations for multi-day trips will be discussed, as well as the importance of careful coordination of ability level, terrain, routes, and timing.

1:00 PM SCT212 Advanced Outdoor Cooking Methods (2 Hours) 

Cooking on outdoor trips can be much more than just a 2 burner propane stove. Come learn about some cooking alternatives; Dutch ovens, box ovens, pie irons and more. This course takes place OUTDOORS - Please dress for the weather. 

1:00 PM SCT303 Backpacker Cooking 

An introduction to the most useful approach to cooking when traveling in the backcountry. It’s quick, lightweight, nutritious, satisfying, delicious, and environmentally friendly. Get started on the right foot. 

3:00 PM SCT127 How to run a PLC meeting 

The Patrol Leaders Council (PLC) should be the driving force behind the Youth led troop and its program. Learn how to run effective PLC meetings. For Scoutmasters and junior leaders.

Youth Leadership Training 

9:00 AM YLT100 Den Chief Training (4 hours) 

A four hour course for older scouts who are or will be serving as Den Chiefs. Fulfills the training requirement for the Den Chief Service Award. Prerequisite to review Online Den Chief training on 

9:00 AM YLT104 Scoutmaster and SPL Orientation to ILST (4 hours) "Train the Trainer" workshop for Scoutmasters and Senior Patrol Leaders on how to implement an Introduction for Leadership Skills for Troops (ILST) program in their troop.
