Sledding Trip

Friday, March 13th

Scouts will gather at 6:00 at the church, departing by 6:30 for Camp Wanocksett, in Dublin, NH.

Scouts should bring a bag dinner to have after or during the 1.5-2 hr trip to our cabin.  Camp Wanocksett is located on the shores of Thorndike Pond, in the shadow of Mount Monadnock State Park.  We will spread out in one Wanocksett’s largest cabins, which is heated by a wood stove, and has two rooms with bunks for 30 scouts and adults.

Gear:  Scouts will need to bring sleds and helmets, along with winter boots and outerwear for the ascent.  Sleds should track well and be steerable.  Round discs and inflatables are not acceptable. Helmets are mandatory for all participants, skiing helmets being best, but properly fitting bike helmets are acceptable.

Saturday, March 14th- extreme sledding

Miller State Park is located on the 2,290-foot summit and flank of Pack Monadnock in Peterborough and is the oldest state park in New Hampshire.  For sledding purposes, it has an access road that is closed all winter.  We will follow the Wapack trail 1.4 miles to the top of Pack Monadnock, at an elevation of 2290, then sled down to the parking lot using the auto road, for nearly 840 ft of vertical sledding over 1.5 miles.   If there is insufficient snow for sledding, we will join one of the few to summit Mt Mondadnock in winter, so scouts should prepare for a hike.

Saturday night: Cards and games in the cabin & movie night

Sunday: Wanocksett hike around pond.
