A note to all participants regarding Mosquito Prevention Steps

The Camporee organizers have been closely monitoring the potential risk of EEE and provide the following information, so families can be aware of steps to avoid exposure to mosquitoes.
  • The risk level for EEE for Needham is at "low risk" as of September 13th. You can stay up-to-date with the risk level by checking the Needham MA website here: http://needhamma.gov/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=1037.
  • The Camp Nehoiden property will be professionally sprayed for mosquitoes during the week of 9/16/19. • Per consultation with the Needham's Department of Public Health Nurse, Tiffany Zike, adults and children should take precautions through the following steps:
    1. Wearing long sleeves and long pants (required after dusk)
    2. Repeated application of insect repellent with the ingredient DEET. Insect repellent should be reapplied each hour for every 10% concentration of DEET (e.g., for repellent with 40% DEET, reapply every 4 hours).
  • While we encourage all participants to bring their own repellant, insect repellent with DEET will be available at the Camporee registration table at Horsford Pond and at all activity stations.
  • The Camporee event will start 30 minutes earlier than usual, which will allow dinner to be served earlier than in past years. Any families who wish to depart before dusk will be finished with dinner by 6:00pm. "Dusk" on Saturday, September 21st begins at 7:12pm; sunset will be at 6:45pm.
  • Please keep your tents zipped up during the day and overnight, as much as possible.
