2019 Intro to Backpacking

The annual Intro to Backpacking trip is a great way for Scouts to learn new skills and make strides toward rank advancement. We'll leave the Presbyterian Church on Saturday morning, May 4th (exact time TBD) with all personal, troop and cooking gear packed up. We'll drive to the nearby Nobscot Scout Reservation in Framingham/Sudbury - just 13 miles from Needham. Once at Nobscot, we'll hike into the reservation, stopping along the way to see the expansive views from Tippling Rock and check out sites featuring local history and folklore.

We plan to stay in "lean-tos" - also called Adirondack shelters. Scouts can learn how to use backpacking stoves and practice skills for their Whittling Chip and Firem'n Chit. Older Scouts will have the opportunity to share backpacking, knot-tying, cooking and axe-yard lessons.

We'll return to the Presbyterian Church around mid-day on Sunday, May 5th.

All Troop 13 Scouts can sign up for the Intro to Backpacking trip and it's highly recommended that Scouts from all ranks attend, as the Intro is a great trip for both teaching and learning.

More information and a packing list will follow.
