COPE & Climbing Instructor II Training

COPE & Climbing Instructor II Training

The course is designed to build upon the Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience (COPE) & Climbing Level I Foundations training and will focus on the COPE & Climbing Foundations Level II Instructor competencies.  Our training goal is to ensure that you can safely and effectively lead MCC Unit, District, and Council COPE & Climbing activities held at the climbing tower (or indoor wall) at either Belk Scout Camp or Mecklenburg Scout Reservation (MSR).  Training will be conducted following the BSA “Belay On” Manual, National Camp Accreditation Program (NCAP) Standards, and MCC’s COPE & Climbing Program Policies and Procedures.

This Level II course is intended for BSA registered adults (by invitation only) who meet the above prerequisites and are interested in leading climbing and rappelling activities held at either camp’s tower or the MSR indoor climbing wall.  Upon successful completion of the course (to include demonstrating Level II competencies), adults will receive their BSA “Artificial Climbing Structure Level II Instructor” training card.

Please note that this course will only focus on the climbing tower elements and will not cover low or high COPE courses or Climbing Level II competencies & natural rock climbing/rappelling or anchor set-up/safety.
