Leadership Training

Troop 76 prides itself on highly trained leadership at both the adult and youth levels.  All our scoutmasters are trained through BSA and every patrol leader undergoes leadership training prior to being assigned a patrol.  Leadership is the foundation on which strong organizations are built and troop 76 strives to build this foundation everyday.

"Every Scout deserves a trained leader."

Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of Scouting

Adult training helps to provide a better Scouting program for your son.  Training will help you understand Scouting's philosophy, aims, methods and policies, increase your self confidence and comfort level participating in Scouting activities, and help you better understand your son's path to Eagle.

Recent BSA national policy changes have put a greater emphasis on adult training.  All Assistant Scoutmasters must be fully trained by the end of 2011 in order to remain as registered adult Scouters

The Matianuck District is offering Scoutmaster / Assistant Scoutmaster Specific Training on Oct 18, Oct 25 and Nov 20.  Those dates are a Monday, a Monday and a Saturday.  You must attend all three sessions of this course.  The location has not been announced yet but is typically in Windsor or East Granby.  Troop 76 will reimburse the cost
of adult training.  The on-line registration for this course is not active yet.  If you are interested in taking this course please let me know.

The Matianuck District is offering Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills on the weekend of September 11 & 12.  This course includes an overnight campout.  Troop 76 will reimburse the cost of adult training.  The on-line registration for this course is not active yet.  If you are interested in taking this course please let me know.

Please note that to take these classes you should already have taken "This is Scouting", "Fast Start Training" and "Youth Protection Training".  All three are available at no charge on-line from BSA national.  Just go to www.Scouting.org and click on "MyScouting" in the upper right corner of the page.  These classes require less  than one hour each to complete.
Completion of "Fast Start Training", "This is Scouting" and "Youth Protection Training" along with "Scoutmaster / Assistant Scoutmaster Specific Training" and "Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills" fulfill the training requirements for Assistant Scoutmasters.

Please contact Fred Lorenzen if you need any additional information.
