Linda Schofield organizes an event each year usually in April to clean up the streets of Simsbury. The event is referred to as Linda's Litter Lugging day. Scouts fan out around town and collect trash along the edges of the streets and bring the garbage back to town hall for disposal.
The Walk Against Hunger provides much needed support for all of Foodshare's participating partner agencies. Over 128,000 people, including 50,000 children, are in need of emergency food assistance in the Greater Hartford area each year. Foodshare aims to end hunger by engaging the community in events such as the Walk Against Hunger in hopes of shedding light on the importance of this issue. Troop 76 performs the opening and closing color guard as well as cleanup for this event.
Troop 76 is the only boy scout troop in town that participates in both the Tarriffville and Simsbury parades. Our scouts also assist the VFW and American Legion in placing flags on veterans' grave sites at the town's cemeteries.
Troop 76 participates in Flag Day ceremonies in Simsbury each year (June 14) when the troop places flags along Hopmeadow Street, serves as color guard, and retires of out of service flags.
The troop cleans up the church grounds each spring before Easter, assists at the arts festival, and provides other service as needed.
Troop 76 regularly runs drives to collect goods for Gifts of Love, The Salvation Army, overseas military, and other charitable organizations. Stay tuned to the google group to know when we will next be run a drive. These drives are typically run during the winter months when the items are most in demand.
