Recap from the 2010 Relay for Life...
Thank you for helping the Simsbury community complete another successful Relay for Life over the weekend of June 12-13 !
Despite the traditional Relay weather (“some rain”) and a new twist (“midnight evacuation to the high school building while a storm cell passed”) --- it was, overall, a very good weekend event which helped raise quite a bit of money for the American Cancer Society. Troop 76 scouts helped with the event set-up, the Fight Back skit, Luminaria set-up, and the event clean-up. I received numerous compliments on the exemplary behavior of our scouts.
I do not yet have an official total from the ACS, but according to my calculations Troop 76 raised close to $4,000 for this worthy
A special mention should be made regarding the contributions of Josh R. Through various fundraising activities, including recycling cans from the Simsbury Litter Lugging day, Josh raised almost $1,400 for the Relay for Life! This tremendous effort is a great example of
Thanks also to David K.for serving on the Relay for Life Committee this year, and for helping run the Relay event as Stage Manager.
Recap from the 2009 Relay for Life...
Relay For Life 2009 was a great success! Thanks to your energy and effort the Troop has reached its goal to raise at least $3,000 for the American Cancer Society. At the Court of Honor just before Relay weekend, the troop had reached $1,500 in donations toward our goal of $3,000. During the Court of Honor, we went over the $2,000 mark, thanks to $508 raised by Josh R.
Saturday June 13, we met at Simsbury High School for the Relay event. We had excellent participation with about 30 scouts involved. Thanks to the early arrivers who helped set up camp for our team and for others. Our Troop presented the colors at the opening ceremony, and the Relay was underway!
During the day, there were fundraisers and activities, and teams walked laps around the high school track. About 40 teams from the community participated. During the Relay event, Scott B. turned in $944, raising our total over the $3,000 goal!
A steady rain from midnight to 7AM accompanied the campers. A number of scouts left Sunday morning to attend the Adventure Race, while others remained to help with clean-up after the Relay.
We are now over $3,500 and counting, as additional money is raised and turned in to the American Cancer Society.
