Eagle Scout Court of Honor: Garrett Morales

posted Aug 15, 2018, 8:16 AM by Saline Troop446

On April 17, Troop 446 recognized Garrett Morales in an Eagle Scout Court of Honor for achieving his Eagle Scout rank, the highest achievement in the Boy Scouting program. Only four percent of Boy Scouts are granted this rank after a lengthy review process.

As scoutmaster, I wanted to recognize Garrett as one of the kindest souls I have met. His gentle personality was a wonderful balance in the troop making him easily a friend to all.

A scout is friendly

Congratulations Garrett on your achievement. We look forward to watching you grow in your adventures in life...

New Troop Trailer

posted Aug 15, 2018, 8:07 AM by Saline Troop446   [ updated Aug 15, 2018, 8:13 AM ]

In June 2018, the Saline Rotary proudly presented Troop 446 with a new double-axle trailer. The troops' previous trailer, was over 20 years old and in need of significant repair. The troop has grown much over the last few years and the new trailer will accommodate their gear for years to come.

When the Saline Rotarian's, who sponsor the Scout group, learned about the age and repairs needed for the old trailer, they immediately took action, purchasing the trailer just in time for the Scouts to attend summer camp with it. The trailer was purchased at Brown's Trailers Inc in Clinton, MI.

Included, on the trailer are graphics of the troops' and Rotarian logos, and the names of all Troop 446 Eagle Scouts.

From August 13-20, 2016, four Troop 446 scouts were honors to participate as part of Mackinac Island Honor Troop 168 from Pt. Huron, Michigan. Scouts who are chosen to serve as the Governor’s Honor Guard and Fort Mackinac Guides for one week each summer. While there scouts conduct daily flag ceremonies on Avenue of Flags, and in Fort Holmes and Fort Mackinac, and man informational areas throughout the fort and in several historic buildings answering questions and assisting guests. Scouts also complete various community service projects while on the island, to improve the state park, historic structures and surrounding community.

To be considered for this honor, scouts must go through an intense interview and be chosen. A maximum of 60 scouts participate during the week and often there is a waiting list. Scouts must also participate in monthly meetings where they practice flag etiquette, marching drills and instruction about the island and history of the forts.

Boy Scouts began serving as the “Governor’s Honor Guard” on Mackinac Island starting In 1929 making it the oldest service troop in the state. There are many such honor troops that participate, either Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts, however to learn more about MIHT 168 Troop and information on how to participate, please visit their website:http://www.mackinac168.scoutlander.com/

Thank you for your week of service boys!
