BRYCE NATION FOUNDATION

Bryce Anglin was a 21 year-old college junior at his hometown university, Northern State when he and his family found out he had cancer. That was March 13, 2012 and by April 24, 2012 he passed away at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. The type of cancer which struck him down was a form that is not easily detectible and is rare with one in one million people in North America per year being diagnosed with this dreaded disease which knows no boundaries.

The Bryce Nation Foundation was formed by the parents, family and friends of Bryce Anglin in order to celebrate his memory and his legacy by doing charitable works. The foundation’s mission is to:

·        Make donations to other charitable organizations; particularly, those organizations that support youth and college baseball in Aberdeen, South Dakota, and those organizations whose mission is devoted to cancer research and related activities.

·        Award scholarships to students within the Aberdeen area who excel in the classroom and on the baseball diamond, and exemplify Bryce’s way of life: hard work, commitment to excellence, honesty, character, and integrity. These students who are singled out for recognition are forever challenged to lead a purpose-driven life and to leave a positive and profound legacy.

Bryce leaves behind his Mom and Dad, Jeanette & Greg, his sister Erin, brother Brian and his wife Heather, his nieces Kyanne, Rain and Aspyn and nephew Steele. He is missed so much by his aunts, uncles and friends who mourn his death everyday.

Editorial that appeared in the NSU Exponent 5-2-12

Northern State University lost one of the greatest people ever to grace the campus, Bryce Anglin. Many people who ever had the opportunity with him will be very quick to say they will never regret it. God blessed him with many gifts and he wasn't afraid to use them. His name should be written as a synonym to positivity. Wherever he was, he would always brighten up the area. He took the time to have long lasting conversations with you whenever possible and found ways to leave you with a smile on your face with his humor and his smile. Never once would he let you down if you asked him to do something; he always would come through. Even during the rough times, not once would it bring him down. Instead, he learned a method of perseverance and taking things in stride that we all can all take a lesson from. Bryce will be missed in many ways. From his contributions to the classroom, community, athletic field, and beyond, no one will be able to match the impact that he made to everyone's lives. This was evident as we all rallied behind him during his courageous battle with cancer. He was there for us when we needed someone and you can bet that when we supported him he was happy the feelings were reciprocated. Even this ability to love and care for everyone was not lost in his final days. God blessed us with Bryce for 21 years of life. His reward of being up in Heaven is more than deserved. Rest in peace, Bryce and #BryceNation will never be forgotten.

In April of 2012 the Bryce Anglin Memorial Track & Field Record Board was unveiled at the May Overby gym in front of selected invitees including the current record holders. Big thanks go out to Mrs. Diane Kost, PE teacher at May Overby, Mike Neubert, principal at May Overby and Rick Kline of 5th Avenue Trophies Banners & Signs. After the board was hung in May promptly two records fell - Mike Stotz and Andrea Sjomeling's marks were taken down by Dillon Stoebner who ran a 7.78 hurdle race and Abby Kopecky who turned in a 2:12 for the 600 meter run. The Jackrabbits will be getting a great person in the fall of next year.

**********************************************************************

The 2012-2013 Bryce Anglin Student Senate Leadership Award was also given out for the first time at Simmons Middle School during the end of school year awards day in May. Each year Bryce Nation concentrates a lot of efforts in May when the Brown County Relay for Life takes over the fairgrounds as many family members put in their time, donations and their walking skills to help others who need help. Also many other cancer related benefits and fundraisers are supported in part by the Bryce Nation Foundation in South Dakota including Walters Warriors in Yankton and many others.

******************************************************************************************************

Also in May of 2013  we were surprised by Alex Russo a marine from Aberdeen who visited our home and told us the story of the flag he and another soldier are holding in Afghanistan in the picture below. He said that the support flag for Bryce Nation was passed from troop to troop as the story which Alex passed along about Bryce's condition & fight and ultimate demise made its way across the middle east. After being deployed for over a year the flag made its way back in Alex's hands and then in ours where we display it proudly. Words can't describe the gratitude we feel toward this selfless effort he made for Bryce and us.

In July 2013 a dedication was held before the Aberdeen Smitty's 13-14 Teener Tournament for the Bryce Anglin Memorial Scoreboard. With many family members and Bryce Nation friends on hand for a small ceremony which was held prior to the start of the tourney where thanks were handed out to Daktronics, Northwestern Energy, Ringenberg Electric, Jensen Rock & Sand and 5th Avenue Trophies Banners & Signs. Also personal thanks to Dick Paulson, Todd Heintzman, Mike Hauge, Mick Karst and Rick Kline for helping make this happen.  A scoreboard has been on the wish list for the Aberdeen Hardball Association for many years and the Foundation is proud to make it happen. Fossum Field & Players Field were home away from home for Bryce starting in kindergarten with spring youth baseball, traveling team ball (Little Sluggers. The Buzz, Wolves) Smittys teeners, Smittys legion and NSU seasons. All from the 1996 through fall baseball in 2011.

The Bryce Anglin Baseball Forever Foundation is another foundation we are involved with and their purpose is to provide a scholarship at the conclusion of each season to a Smitty player who will be attending a school of higher learning in the fall. During the 2012 State American Legion Tournament held in Aberdeen a fundraiser was held to get the foundation up and running. In July of 2013 the first annual BABFF golf tournament was held at Lee Park in  Aberdeen with a total of 19 four-person teams taking part. The event will become a regular each summer and if you want to find out more info check out the facebook page at -  https://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/367778693295518/
